NES stands for Nintendo Entertainment System, a video game console released in 1983. It was also called the Family Computer, or Famicon, in Asia. Nintendo sold over 60 million NES consoles, and 40 million copies of it’s most popular game, Super Mario Bros. It dominated gaming for years, and it was not until the Super Nintendo was launched in 1990 that it’s popularity started in wane.
Nintendo NES Accessories
The popularity of the NES saw a huge number of accessories released. There are joysticks, wireless controllers, headphones, light guns, and many controllers made specifically for one game.
Nintendo NES Games
There were over 1000 games released for the Famicon, and over 800 games released for the NES, not counting the many unlicenced games made in recent years. While most Famicon and NES games are the same, several games were only released in certain regions.
Nintendo NES Game Values
It is common to see NES games selling for less than $1 on eBay, and most sell for less than $5. The most popular NES titles are Super Mario Bros, Metroid, Zelda, and Castlevania. These sell for a lot more, especially if the box is in mint condition. The game cartridges are made of tough plastic, so the only sign of wear is often a tattered label.
